
The first-ever Children Taekwondo Union (CTU) Championship was held in Mumbai on Saturday, April 12, 2025, drawing over 600 participants aged 4-16 from across Maharashtra and beyond.
The event, organized by the Children Taekwondo Union of India, saw young athletes compete in a vibrant display of skill and sportsmanship.

The championship was the result of dedicated efforts from Master Shivram Makwana, Vice Secretary General of the World Children Taekwondo Union (WCTU); Mr. Dinesh Wala, Manager of CTU - India; Dr. Animesh N. Nerurkar Education Director of CTU India; and Master Jayesh Velhal, President, Maharashtra state of CTU India, and his team.
Amod Sharma, Director of Air India, served as the chief guest. The event was also graced by Ms. Piyu Chouhan of the Bose Foundation, Shri Sandeep Rajpal Bohat, Special Executive Officer of the Transport Department, Maharashtra, Shri Nitn Pohane, Advisor to the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt of India, and businessman Mr. Sunil Rajkumar Gulani.

The tournament saw participation from various CTU India presidents and their teams, including Master Sheetal Bhandari (Pune District) and Master Lachit Basumatary (Assam). Tamil Nadu's team was led by Mr. Karthick, representing Master R. Balasankar, Master Shiva Swami, President of Thane district CTU India, also had a team present. Students hailing from Mumbai, Thane district, Pune district, Satara district, sangli district, Aurangabad district Nasik district and Chiplun.
A particularly heartwarming highlight was the performance of six children from the Asha Kiran project of the Maharashtra State Women's Council. Led by their superintendent, Mz. Raheen Jummani, Yash Singh, Aliya Shaikh, Rajan Sarola, Karan Satoriya, Revati Dalvi, and Ritu Bhandari collectively secured a remarkable twelve medals, including three gold and two silver, showcasing their talent and dedication.
The inaugural CTU Championship in Mumbai proved to be a resounding success, providing a platform for young Taekwondo enthusiasts to showcase their skills and fostering a spirit of healthy competition.
The event underscores the growing popularity of Taekwondo amongst children in India and the dedication of the CTU in promoting the sport at the grassroots level.
All these students are preparing for national, Asia and world championships of the world CTU.
