Celebrating 50 Years of Legacy: 'TAEKWONDO ACUTEL' to Publish Special Korea Edition
-Founded by the late Park Soo-nam in 1975, the world’s first Taekwondo magazine returns to its roots with in-depth coverage from Korea -Marking its 50th anniversary, the world’s first and most prestigious Taekwondo monthly magazine, TAEKWONDO ACUTEL, is set to publish a special Korea edition with on-site coverage and exclusive interviews throughout August. -This special issue is made possible with the support of the World Children Taekwondo Union (WCTU).
The magazine was first launched in 1975 by the late Park Soo-nam, former Vice President of World Taekwondo Union(WT) and Honorary President for Life of the European Taekwondo Union.
Over the past five decades, TAEKWONDO ACUTEL has earned global respect as the authoritative voice of Taekwondo journalism.
This upcoming issue is also part of a broader initiative to honor and preserve Park’s legacy in the world of martial arts, Taekwondo.
Editor-in-Chief Sibylle Maier on a One-Month Field Tour in Korea
Sibylle Maier, Editor-in-Chief and CEO of TAEKWONDO ACUTEL, arrived in South Korea at the end of July and is currently conducting a one-month field report, including exclusive interviews with key Taekwondo figures and visits to major organizations and training sites.
The first official coverage began on August 3rd with the 2025 Korea–India Children’s Taekwondo Friendship Exchange Camp held at Sangji University in Wonju, hosted by WCTU and supported by the university's Taekwondo department.
On August 5th, Maier visited Applerind, a leading Korean sportswear and gear company collaborating with WCTU to co-develop children’s uniforms and protective gear.
The upcoming itinerary includes:
August 8: Coverage of the UNESCO registration strategy meeting in Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province and an exclusive interview with Choi Jae-chun, head of the UNESCO registration promotion team.
August 11: Interview with the Chairman of the Taekwondo Promotion Foundation on its 20th anniversary and a meeting with the Mayor of Muju County – home of the Taekwondowon.
August 12: On-site reporting at Muju Citizen Gymnasium, where senior Taekwondo masters and manias are training for the upcoming 2025 Muju Children’s Taekwondo Cultural Festa.
August 18: Interviews with newly elected Asian Taekwondo Union President Kim Sang-jin and National Assembly Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee Chairman Kim Kyo-heung.
The visit will conclude with the signing of an MOU between TAEKWONDO ACUTEL and NewsVision Media, the media company led by WCTU President Rhee Sang-gi.
Embracing Digital Expansion: Real-Time Global Taekwondo Coverage
In line with global media trends, TAEKWONDO ACUTEL is enhancing its digital presence by launching a comprehensive online platform. This will allow real-time reporting on Taekwondo events, trends, and developments from around the world.
Additionally, the magazine is pursuing official registration in Korea, strengthening its ties with key institutions such as the World Taekwondo (WT), Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Kukkiwon (World Taekwondo Headquarters), and the Taekwondo Promotion Foundation in Muju, recognized as the heartland of Taekwondo training and culture.
WCTU President Rhee Sang-gi stated, “Preserving the legacy of the late Park Soo-nam and maintaining this historic publication is crucial. Through closer collaboration with Korea, we aim to evolve TAEKWONDO ACUTEL into a truly global Taekwondo platform.”
